The Gateway of the North NORTH BAY, Ontario Canada |
The Winter Fur Carnival
During the winter we have a Winter Fur Carnival,it is called that because, this is where the Fur Trappers Association has their office and storage facilities for the furs that the trappers bring in to be auctioned. Every year fur company representives from all over the world, show up to bid on these furs. This brings in big money for north bay and the trappers alike.
The carnival is held at the end February and is just about the biggest such event in Ontario. Again people come from all over Canada and the United States to participate in the events.
The biggest event is the dog races which
is held over a two day period. Other activities are snowmobile
races on a very well prepared track on the ice, car races,
skydivers drop in plus many more things for young and old.
An ice fishing derby is also held at this time with many great prizes.
If you like winter I know some people do, come on out and join in the festivities, for those who dont care for winter the bars and restaurants join in the theme and spirit of the carnival.
